Business Assessment

 Orangetheory Fitness

The company website does a very good job at communicating. At the top of the front page, there is a bar that says, "First Class Free." It shows you the closest location, which is important if you are going to attend this gym. There is a very large font quote that states, "The Smartest Workout for More Results." Of course, this is a very motivating quote for people who might not enjoy working out, or maybe for someone who is just looking for an easier workout. As you scroll down further you get the breakdown of what the actual workout is. I think that this is very important as this information will pull those who are interested in further. You are easily able to locate the different membership options, however they don't provide the pricing. For many people this can detour them as they don't want to call or just want to easily access the information. Not having the pricing makes sense regarding getting people to call in or come in, but it would be better communication. It is important that they did include the Quit Free Guarantee information on the website as some people may be unsure if it is for them after a few classes. Showing identity with another quote, "What Happens in Class Doesn't Stay in Class." A little spin on the famous, "What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas," is a fun way to engage individuals on the workout being effective.

The communication on the website goes deeper on the tabs where you can choose The Workout, Locations, and Joining. The Workout tab goes further into information to help the individual who is interested get the most information they possibly can about how the Orangetheory Fitness workout works. Breaking it down into the 3 stations, rowing, cardio, and strength training to provide a brief intro on what would be occurring. The coolest part about Orangetheory Fitness to me is that they have a heart monitor that monitors your entire workout. It shows you your hearts zone during the workout which I could see drawing people in more. Being a huge number person and liking to see the stats of your workout in real time is very beneficial for some individuals, it can be a great source of motivation if you are competitive.

Orangetheory Fitness has many Instagram accounts. There is a main account and then each studio has their own personal account. The main account reposts the individual studio's pictures, posts announcements such as upcoming benchmarks, new updates, holiday posts, brag boards, and motivational quotes. The individual locations post the same things, but they focus on their members and coaches a lot. They have stories with coaches doing fun things like, "A day in the life of coach Brad" or "Ask me a question about the upcoming benchmark." The personal pages are very much to engage with the individuals who go to that gym to brag on them. All of their social media pages like Twitter and Facebook included information that easily communicated to individuals on how to start their fitness journey.

Knapp's Relational Model

Throughout the last four years the friendship/relationship I had with my ex-boyfriend went through every step of Knapp's Relational Model, not just once but twice. Our initiation phase occurred when we met our sophomore year of high school. We shared a friend group but went to different schools, so we only saw each other when we were all together on the weekends. The experimenting phase started off with him asking me to prom junior year. We then decided to hangout by ourselves, and things began to intensify. We never officially became a couple and bonded in that way as our schedules and lives started to differentiate. I was focusing on volleyball, and he was focusing on baseball, so things just started to die off. We were stagnant and there was no growth towards a relationship. Soon we stopped hanging out with just each other and only communicated when we were with the friend group. It started up again when I was driving home from Atlanta one night with some friend's senior y...

Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants

According to Prensky, what is the immigrant/native divide and how has it affected the way students learn?  The “new” students of today are considered to be Digital Natives. In today's day in age technology is in bedded in how students live their day to day lives. Many kids are born with a tablet in their hand. They know how to use the internet before they know how to ride a bike. Having a cell phone, gaming device, computer, etc. is the only way they know how to really get by in the world. The Digital Immigrant on the other hand, is someone of the older generation who adopts the digital world. They have to relearn everything and implement this new skill into their lives. Because the Digital Immigrants are the teachers of the Digital Natives it can be very hard for some students to learn. Prensky states, "D...

About Me

Hey everyone, my name is Colby! I am originally from Prineville, Oregon, and I lived there until I was 10. That summer we moved to Grayson, Georgia, a city right outside of Atlanta. I have been going back and forth between Oregon and Georgia for the past year now, but I do consider Georgia home. I am working towards getting a degree in Sociology. End goal is to be able to help those who have mental illnesses. Specifically, I would like to work with athletes. Leading the individual through the tough time is something I would love to do as I personally went through it myself.  I spend a lot of my time with family and friends, watching movies, working out, hiking/walking, and playing with my dog. Cooking and eating are my top two favorite things to do, I am always cooking up something. I love shoes. Call it what you want, an obsession, a sneaker head, a shopping problem. Getting a new pair of shoes feels like Christmas morning to me. I have never taken a communicat...
